Wanted gangster, 3 accomplices shot dead; six cops injured 

Wanted gangster Rajesh Bharti and three of his accomplices were killed in an encounter with the Special Cell at south Delhi's Chhatarpur on Saturday afternoon, the Delhi Police said. 

NEW DELHI:  Wanted gangster Rajesh Bharti and three of his accomplices were killed in an encounter with the Special Cell at south Delhi's Chhatarpur on Saturday afternoon, the Delhi Police said.

Six policemen were also injured in the gunfight that started between 12.30-1.30pm after the gang refused to surrender and tried to escape in a white colour Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV), they said, adding the exchange of fire lasted about half an hour.

The Special Cell had received a tip-off that Bharti and his men would be visiting a farmhouse in Fatehpur Beri area. Rajesh Bharti, who had escaped from police custody in Haryana, had many serious cases against him. He was also a wanted criminal in Delhi."The encounter began after the police got a tip-off that the gang would be visiting the area. The criminals who died in the encounter have been identified as Rajesh Bharti, Vidroh, Umesh Don and Bhiku," a police officer said.

Their fifth accomplice got injured and was admitted to a hospital.Bharti and Vidroh carried rewards of `1 lakh each on their head, while Umesh was carrying a reward of `50,000 on him. They were wanted in several cases of murder and extortion.The special cell personnel had been keeping an eye on a farmhouse in Chhatarpur for the last two to three months as they suspected that the gang members would be arriving there.In the encounter, the gangsters were grievously injured and taken to a hospital where they were declared brought dead, the official said.
