The Jammu and Kashmir unit of the Congress said Wednesday it would contest the upcoming urban local bodies and panchayat polls in the state.
The JD(U) leader said people were very happy that the polls were taking place after a very long time.
The polls would be held through ballot and migrant Kashmiri Pandits can also vote through postal ballots, the CEO said.
The meeting was called by NC president Farooq Abdullah at his residence in Gupkar area of the city.

The NC has already announced that it would not participate in the municipal and panchayat polls scheduled in October-December.
The Governor administration has announced holding of 4-phase municipal and 8-phase panchayat polls in the state from October to December.
His remarks on Kashmir come at a time the Supreme Court is hearing pleas challenging the constitutional validity of Article 35-A of the Constitution.

Article 35-A, which was incorporated in the Constitution by a 1954 Presidential Order, accords special rights and privileges to the citizens of Jammu and Kashmir.
Business and other activities also resumed in the twin central Kashmir districts of Budgam and Ganderbal.
Protests have been held across the length and breadth of Kashmir over the past month in support of continuing Article 35-A.
