The application was opposed by the CBI's senior public prosecutor V K Sharma and advocate Tarannum Cheema, who said his absence may delay the trial.
The report had alleged the prosecution clearance given about the officer by Verma was one of the decisions revoked by Interim CBI Director M Nageshwar Rao Friday after taking over.

The court also convicted the firm's managing director Vikash Patni and its authorised signatory Anand Mallick in the case.
The counsel said that the relief may result in delay in trial and Jindal may misuse the permission and not return to face the trial.
