Plea to stop Sharif's national address rejected

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has dismissed a petition which sought to stop Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif from addressing the nation Monday, Geo News reported.

Pakistan Peoples Party leader Sajida Mir in her petition had contented that Sharif’s address could influence the by-elections scheduled to be held Aug 22 across the country.

While turning down the plea, the ECP said that Sharif would address the nation as a Prime Minister of Pakistan and not as his party’s chief.
