TNA Leaders to Meet Modi on Saturday

COLOMBO: Leaders of the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) will be leaving for New Delhi on Thursday to meet PM Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj.

While their interaction with Modi is slated for Saturday morning, the meeting with Sushma will happen on Friday morning, sources in Delhi said.

TNA MP Suresh Premachandran told Express that the meetings had been arranged at the request of the party. He said party leaders will meet in Colombo on Wednesday to formulate the agenda. However, in his view, priority will be given to certain pressing problems faced by the people of the Tamil majority Northern Province and also issues faced by the Northern Provincial Administration.

“We will also get to know the mind of the new Indian PM and his government. We are interested to know whether he will continue the previous government’s policies or chart a new course,” Premachandran said.

Giving details of the issues facing the Northern Province, the MP said the SL military is interfering in the administration and is not allowing thousands of war displaced people to get back to their ancestral lands.
