JERUSALEM: Two Israeli soldiers were wounded today when a bomb went off near the Lebanon border, two days after an infiltration bid was foiled by the army in the same area.

The soldiers received initial emergency medical treatment on the spot before being evacuated away from the Lebanese border to hospital for further treatment" an IDF spokesperson said.

Lebanese media reported that Israel retaliated by firing in south Lebanon after the explosion.

"The incident hasn't ended yet from our standpoint", a senior Israeli army source was quoted by The Jerusalem Post as saying.

The incident comes close on the heels of another one when the IDF soldiers opened fire on a group of infiltrators trying to enter Israeli soil from Lebanon on Sunday.

Israeli soldiers had opened fire with small arms, apparently hitting one of the infiltrators.

"The cell fled back into Lebanese territory," the IDF said.
