A youth opposition leader was killed in Venezuela on Sunday in a protest against a contentious election organised by President Nicolas Maduro, prosecutors said.

CARACAS: A youth opposition leader was killed in Venezuela on Sunday in a protest against a contentious election organised by President Nicolas Maduro, prosecutors said.

Ricardo Campos, 30, died in the northeastern town of Cumana in circumstances that had yet to be investigated, the prosecutors' office said.

An opposition lawmaker, Henry Ramos Allup, said Campos, a regional secretary for the youth opposition party Democratic Action, was shot dead.
