42 cows charred to death in Nepal fire

KATHMANDU: Scores of people were injured and 42 cows charred to death when a major fire tore through a cattle farm in Nepal, police said.

The fire broke out at the farm yesterday at around 11 am (local time) due to electric short circuit. It took around two hours to personnel from Nepal Police and the Nepal Army, backed by locals, to douse the fire, they said.

Many people who were also in the farm were injured.

The farm in Gokarneshwor Municipality, seven kilometre east of Kathmandu had a total of 122 cows and at least 42 of them died in the incident Other 53 cows have sustained serious injuries, according to the police.

According to the owner of the firm property worth Rs 70 million was destroyed in the blaze. PTI SBP
