GUNTUR: A woman stopped the second marriage of her husband at Mangalagiri on Wednesday.  
According to information, the parents of Dr P Jamir of Mangalagiri fixed his marriage with a Muslim girl. K Lalitha, a beautician and fashion designer of West Marredpally in Hyderabad, along with her family members reached the venue and stopped the marriage by stating that he could not marry another girl without giving divorce to her.

She claimed that Jamir worked in her father’s hospital at West Marredpally and they got married in the registrar office long ago after falling in love when their families rejected the proposal. Later, her parents performed their marriage in a traditional manner and they started living at West Marredpally. Jamir came to Mangalagiri one week ago citing that his father fell ill. Having learnt that he was planning to marry another girl, she approached Hyderabad police seeking justice. On their advice, she came to Mangalagiri and contacted the police urging them to stop the second marriage of her husband. She showed the marriage certificate and their wedding photos to the media and police.


Jamir’s parents maintained that they did know anything about his marriage with Lalitha. Jamir claimed that he settled the matter with Lalitha by paying her `5 lakh and he had no marital relationship with her.
After the marriage was cancelled, the family members of Lalitha and Jamir went to Mangalagiri police station to lodge complaints against each other. The police tried to make a compromise between the two families. But the two groups were adamant and rigid on their stand, the police said.

Woman hangs herself, relatives attack in-laws

A woman allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling fan at Turimella village in Rompicherla mandal on Wednesday.  According to the police, Dontu Lakshmi (27) was married to Ravikumar seven years ago. The couple got two daughters. She became pregnant again. It was alleged that her husband and in-laws pressurised her to undergo abortion after learning that she is bearing a female child again. After that she started living with her parents at Vinukonda.

Lakshmi who returned to her in-laws’ house in Turimella four days ago, resorted to the extreme step. On receiving the news of Lakshmi’s suicide, her parents and relatives reached Turimella and attacked her in-laws Dontu Venkata Chalam and Kotamma. Her husband Ravikumar fled the village. SI N Prakash Rao registered a case.
