Highway robbers arrested 

BENGALURU: Subramanyapura police have arrested a gang of seven men who were involved in highway robberies and kidnappings  across the state. Police seized booty worth a few lakh rupees and a car.

The accused are Pramod, a resident of Banashankari, Girish of AGS Layout, Ravi Kumar of Honnenahalli, Panchaksharaiah, Darshan, Govindu and Venu, all from Tumakuru. All the arrested are aged between 23 to 28.
Police said that based on a tip-off the accused were nabbed when they were planning for a robbery near NICE Road. They were taken into custody, and then they confessed about the previous robberies.

During investigation, the prime accused Pramod, who is a relative of a BDA official, revealed that on August 27 they had kidnapped a businessman who was a close friend of the BDA official. Pramod had hatched the plot to kidnap him. After assaulting him, the gang forced him to withdraw `51,000 and then stabbed him before snatching his gold ornaments.

Similarly, the gang had robbed truck drivers on the highways, when they had parked their trucks on the roadside. In a couple of cases they attacked drivers and helpers of the vehicles and robbed them of cash and other valuables. They were involved in the robbery cases since four years, police said.
