BENGALURU: Three months after the higher education department asked the universities in the state to submit video recordings of the classes, not even a single university has uploaded the same on the E-content database.
“None of the 19 state-run universities have uploaded the class videos yet. As per our information, most of the universities are yet to start recording the classes. It is mandatory and a circular was issued in this regard. A reminder circular will soon be sent to the varsities,” said a senior department official.

The exercise of video recording the classes by different faculties was introduced by the then principal secretary of higher education Bharath Lal Meena. It was aimed at improving the quality of teaching at the state varsities. As per the circular issued in January 2017, it was made  mandatory for all state universities to do video recording of the teaching of their faculties and submit the same to the expert committee constituted at university level, the circular stated. The university authorities, meanwhile, have expressed their helplessness as the senior faculty members are opposed to the idea of getting their classes video-recorded.

At Bangalore University (BU), the faculty members have even threatened of boycotting classes if the authorities tried to implement the circular.
“Most of us are teaching for several years. For us, this is not just a profession, but also our passion. No one has the right to humiliate us by entering the classroom with a video camera while we engage in teaching,” said a senior professor of the university.
