Class 9 boy goes missing, mom blames school

A Class 9 student from Bishop Cotton Boys School has gone missing since Sunday, allegedly after being harassed in school.

BENGALURU: A Class 9 student from Bishop Cotton Boys School has gone missing since Sunday, allegedly after being harassed in school. The boy’s mother has blamed the school for pushing her son towards this step.  Sheela, mother of Santosh (both names changed), alleged that her son was ragged by his classmates, especially over her being a single parent. The boy went missing a day ahead of a re-exam for a subject that he had not cleared.

Sheela lodged a complaint at Sadashivanagar police station on Monday, naming the school in her plaint. Speaking to Express, she alleged that the ragging began last year, when a classmate hurled abuses at Santosh and used derogatory words against her.  “I am a single mother. My son was time and again harassed on this ground.

A classmate also told him that I was not of good character and went out with other men,” she added. She also claimed that the issue was brought to the notice of the school co-ordinator but to no effect. “Instead, my son was asked to tender a written apology,” she alleged.
But, school authorities claimed that the class was advised against bullying the boy and they had even rescheduled re-exams for him.
