BENGALURU: Byatarayanapura police opened fire at a 24-year-old rowdy sheeter when he tried to assault them with a machete at Viveshwaraiah layout 1st stage near Kengeri- Sonnenahalli Link road on Tuesday evening.

According to DCP (West) Anucheth, Nagendra, a resident of Kalidasa Layout, Srinagar, was preparing for a dacoity. Byatarayanapura police got a tipoff about it and went to arrest him. The accused then attacked the police with a machete.

Byatarayanapura police inspector Shivaswamy and constable Naveen were injured.
Nagendra continued to attack the policemen even after he was told to surrender. In self defence, police had to resort to open fire. Nagendra sustained an injury on the leg and  was shifted to a hospital. The injured policemen were were also admitted.

Nagendra is involved in 14 cases of attempt to murder, assault, preparation for dacoity and theft. He is a rowdy sheeter in Chamarajpet police station.
This is the fourth incident in 15 days where police have opened fire at accused. On March 1, Rajgopalnagar police inspector fired at Pavan when he attacked police with a rod. On March 7, the HAL police shot at an alleged serial rapist. On Feb 28, Vidyaranyapura inspector Punith opened fire on chain snatcher Manja.
