CHENNAI: TVS Motor Company on Wednesday unveiled two new products from its stable — India’s first auto-clutch motorcycle TVS Jive and an automatic scooter TVS WEGO - to tap the growing two-wheeler market segment in the country.
A ddressing the media at the launch function here, Venu Srinivasan, Chairman, TVS Motor Company, exuded confidence that the two products would transform the very definition of city commuter biking what with the combination of style, comfort, performance, ease of operation and fuel efficiency.
Stating that the company would launch TVS WEGO in the market in January after the auto expo in Delhi, Venu Srinivasan said that the mass production of it would happen in the second week of January.
“Even though the patent for TVS Jive is pending, the company has already gone into mass production of it,” he said and added that the company would unveil two more models next year by way of upgrading its products from time to time.
While the ex-show room price of TVS Jive would be Rs 41,000 in Chennai and other parts of the country, the price of TVS WEGO would be put at Rs 42,000.
TVS Jive would give a mileage of 60 km a litre and TVS WEGO would give a mileage of 50 km a litre, he noted.
The company had spent Rs 25 crore on the design and development of TVS Jive and Rs 55 crore on TVS WEGO, Venu Srinivasan remarked.
On the technical side, TVS Jive is propelled by a 110 cc engine that features an innovative T-Matic technology and a rotary gear technology coupled with an automatic clutch. The bike has a fuel tank capacity of 12 litres with two litres as reserve.
TVS WEGO, the multi-user, family friendly and sleek metal bodied scooter with a 110 cc engine, strikes a perfect balance between stability and manoeuvrability, power and mileage, sturdiness and ease, making it a delight to ride for any category of users - men and women, young and old.
Reacting to auto-rickshaw sales, for which the company operates under the brand, TVS King, he said they had aimed to double their sales. “This financial year we are expecting to sell around 20,000 units. Next year we are planning to sell around 40,000 units of autos,” he said.
