Nukem eyes India nuclear opportunity
CHENNAI: India entry consultants Tecnova India, based in Gurgaon, Haryana, is breaking new commercial ground by introducing global uranium supplier NUKEM to the Indian nuclear market. Tecnova is facilitating the NUKEM base operations in India going forward, says Ajay Muttreja, President & CEO Tecnova, In a series of introductory meetings and seminars held in early July 2009, Tecnova facilitated interactions between NUKEM and India’s major participants in the uranium and nuclear fuel space: Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd. (NPCIL); Uranium Company of India Ltd. (UCIL); Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB); Bhaba Atomic Research Center (BARC); and NTPC.
“India is a fast-rising nuclear star, but it is no secret that domestic uranium supplies are under strain. Like China, Japan and South Korea, India must look beyond its borders for secure, economic uranium supply. At the same time, NUKEM looks for long-term clients to support its commitments under long term supply arrangements as well as future production of its own,” NUKEM GmbH Director of Fuel Services Friedel Aul said.
NUKEM, based in Alzenau, Germany and with an American affiliate, NUKEM, Inc., based in Danbury, CT., US, is the world’s third largest supplier of uranium and fuel services to nuclear utilities world-wide.
“We have been serving the nuclear market for more than forty years,” says NUKEM, Inc. Vice President Brian Frame, who joined Aul on the recent learning tour in India. “But for legal reasons we were closed out of the India market until just the last year. That’s why, although NUKEM is well-established in Europe, North and South America and the Far East, we needed Tecnova to help make the necessary introductions and open the right doors.”
