MUMBAI: A benchmark index of Indian equities markets, the 30-scrip Sensitive Index (Sensex), on Thursday closed 231.23 points or 0.89 percent down.
The wider 50-scrip Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) also closed 67.20 points or 0.85 percent down at 7,864.15 points.
The Sensex of the S&P Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 26,123.86 points, closed at 25,886.62 points (at 03.46 p.m.), down 231.23 points or 0.89 percent from the previous day's close at 26,117.85 points.
The Sensex touched a high of 26,123.86 points and a low of 25,857.35 points in the intra-day trade.
