Andhra Pradesh to Set Up 2 Mega Super Critical Thermal Power Plants

VIJAYAWADA: The Andhra Pradesh government will set up two mega super critical thermal power plants with an installed capacity of 800 MW at a cost of Rs 9,600 crore in Krishnapatnam and Vijayawada districts.

Two mega super critical thermal power plants with an installed capacity of 800 MW are coming up at a cost of Rs 4,800 crore each, Principle Secretary, Department of Energy,

Ajay Jain said on the sidelines of Energy Conservation Week here.

He said the two thermal power plants will come up in Krishnapatnam and Vijayawada.

Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu handed over a cheque of Rs 430 crore to BHEL (Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd) yesterday as advance for the erection of boilers at those two plants, Jain said.

BHEL has been asked to complete the two projects within a period of 36 months, he added.

Jain said all wings of Power sector in AP-APGenco, APTransco, APSPDCL (power distribution companies) received four awards for energy saving, while Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation won honour for implementation of energy saving LED bulbs.

The Secretary said 95 per cent of street lights in Visakhapatnam were replaced with LED bulbs in last few months, while government now plans to replace all street lights in 110 municipal corporations and village panchayats in the state with LED lights in a phased manner. About 80 lakh LED bulbs will be required for this task.

Jain said replacement of conventional bulbs in domestic sector is under implementation in the state and so far about 1.25 crore LED bulbs have been supplied while the rest will be supplied by next March.

Conventional agricultural pump sets will also be converted into solar power operated pump sets in a phased manner, he added.
