Walmart plans to open 70 Cash and Carry stores by 2020

BENGALURU: Walmart India is on expansion mode and the company is planning to increase its cash and carry outlets to 70 by the year 2020, said Krish Iyer, President and CEO, Walmart India.

Currently, the global retailer operates 21 cash & carry stores across nine states in India.  “We have received proposals from across the country to cover two-three more states, thus covering 12 states in all,” Iyer said, addressing the Shopping Centre Forum 2016.

On the retail sector, he said, “India is one of the largest markets in the world and I see opportunity for the next 30 years. While the policies and regulations remain a challenge to start business here, the situation is not retail-friendly, not only for the global players but also for the local players.”
