Reliance Industries Limited Chairman Mukesh Ambani today officially launched the Reliance Jio 4G Network connection which is said to have the world's cheapest 4G data rates.
During the annual general meeting (AGM) meet of the company Ambani said: "Customers should pay for only one service, voice or data not both.... Worldwide operators charge only for data, and voice and messages are free... All voice calls for Jio customer will be absolutely free... The era of paying for voice calls is ending. Jio will usher India into the new era."
Here is what the Reliance Jio offers to the new users:
1) Under the free welcome offer, 4G Data and voice calls to all networks will be free from September 5 to December 31 this year.
2) Jio has done away with roaming charges across the country.
3) After the initial free period, Jio users can select data plans ranging from Small (S) to XXXL from January 1, 2017.
Small data pack: Free voice calls, O.3 GB free 4G data, 100 free SMSes
Medium data pack: Free voice calls, 4 GB free 4G data in the day, unlimited 4G data free in the night, Unlimited free SMS
Subsequent packs will have higher data options
4) The base tariff will be Rs 50 per GB. The rates could go down to Rs 25 per GB as higher the data usage the less the price becomes
5) There will be no extra charges on festival days.
6) Jio user will have free access to Jio apps till December 2017. Jio apps include services like Jio cinema which will have a library of more than 6000 movies, Jio music with 10 million songs.
7) Students will get 25 percent extra data on producing a valid ID card.
8) Jio network promises peak download speed of up to 135 MBPS.
9) Sim will be activated after an Aadhaar-based 15 minute sign up process.
10) One million Jio wifi hotspot will be installed across India by Mid-2017.
