Delhi-NCR largest market for Uber in 2017

(Eds: Rehashing paras 1 & 2 with correction in para 2)Mumbai, Dec 12 (PTI) The commuters in the Delhi-NCRregion have taken the highest number of rides--clocking anaverage 1,969 trips per person--on the global taxi hailingcompany Uber, with its UberGo being the most popular productamong riders, claims the American firm.

Uber today claimed that in Delhi-NCR region, a singlecustomer has taken as many as 1,969 trips in 2017, making itan average of five rides a day.

"In 2017, we were focused on moving from a startup toa sustainable business in India. As a result, we recordeddouble-digits growth and continue to clock over 1 milliontrips a day," Amit Jain, president, Uber India and South Asiasaid in a statement.

He pointed out that the company has also launchedproducts that encourage ridesharing and complement publictransportation through reliable first and last mileconnectivity.

Bangalore and Hyderabad saw the highest number ofuberPool trips, followed by Kolkata and Delhi.

Globally too, riders from India took Ubers in 566cities spanning 80 countries. The most-popular traveldestinations include the US, Singapore, Malaysia, Britain andthe UAE, Uber noted.

It hit the 500 millionth trip milestone on July 17this year. Further, India emerged as the second-largestcontributor to the global milestone, of reaching 5 billionrides by May this year.
