CHENNAI: With report after report alleging a slow, but steady, stream of people forced to leave their jobs in the IT sector, one of the several organisations trying to gain a foothold and form a union in the space
has decided to embark on a concerted effort to escalate the issue.
“The number of layoffs ongoing are many,” alleged Parimala, president, Forum for IT Employees (FITE), “and we have decided on a plan of action over the coming weeks.”
According to the organisation, FITE has decided to hold a two-day workers’ conference on the issue in Chennai on June 17 and 18. The conference is slated to see participation of trade unionists, academicians/industry experts and legal experts across India.
