NEW DELHI: Isuzu Motors India has launched ISUZU mu-X, a premium seven-seater SUV priced up to Rs 25.99 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) and will be built at ISUZU’s new state-of-the-art manufacturing plant at Sri City in Andhra Pradesh. The mu-X will be offered in both 4x2 and 4x4 variants with a sequential shift automatic transmission, the company said. The two-wheel drive variant of the SUV is priced at Rs 23.99 lakh while the four-wheel drive trim is tagged at Rs 25.99 lakh (all prices ex-showroom Delhi).

The SUV, which will be competing with the likes of Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour, is confident of cornering major market share in this segment. “India is a key market for ISUZU globally and is also a future hub of our global manufacturing operations. We will continue to invest in the Indian operations and bring in the best technology and engineering that ISUZU has to offer globally,” said Hiroshi Nakagawa, director of the board and managing executive officer, Isuzu Motors.

The SUV segment accounted for 19 per cent of the total passenger market in India last year, up from eight per cent five years ago. Passenger vehicles sales in the country had crossed three million units for the first time in 2016-17.

“The segment has been growing at 20 per cent, which reflects that the SUV market in India has now come of age and we are excited to be present here in these times with our latest offering,” said Isuzu Motors, deputy managing director Hitoshi Kono. The latest offering from the company, mu-X, is powered by a 3-litre ISUZU engine that provides a maximum power output of 130 kW (177 PS). It provides a maximum torque of 380 Nm that is designed with a significant flat torque curve.
