NEW DELHI: Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas and Skill Development Dharmendra Pradhan on Saturday launched the Pradhan Mantri LPG Panchayat initiative in Gujarat.

The Centre plans to organise one lakh LPG Panchayats across the country, where discussions will take place between officials of fuel companies and villagers on awareness and uses of the LPG.

The LPG Panchayat is an interactive communication platform aimed at educating rural LPG users about proper safety precautions to be taken while using LPG, its benefit to the environment, its effect on women empowerment and health.

Gujarat chief minister Vijay Rupani was also present during the launch of the platform.

“Pradhan Mantri LPG Panchayat is an initiative of the government to reach the doorsteps of poor and under-privileged women to educate them about the safety and efficiency, health benefits, positive impact on environment, economic development and empowerment on usage of LPG connections,” said the petroleum minister.

According to the ministry, the LPG Panchayat initiative will bring together about 100 LPG customers near their living areas on an interactive platform to talk about the safe and sustainable use of LPG, its benefits and the linkage between use of clean fuel for cooking and women empowerment.
