Passenger vehicle sales highest ever in April

Two-wheeler sales stood at 13,38,588 units, up 15.1% over April 2022 while three-wheeler sales more than doubled year-on-year(YoY) in April 2022 to 42,885 units.

NEW DELHI:  Owing to strong demand, passenger vehicle sales in the domestic market stood at 3,31,278 units last month, the highest ever in April and up 13% year-on-year, as per the data issued by SIAM on Friday.

Two-wheeler sales stood at 13,38,588 units, up 15.1% over April 2022 while three-wheeler sales more than doubled year-on-year(YoY) in April 2022 to 42,885 units. Vinod Aggarwal, SIAM President, said the automobile manufacturers’ body, “All the segments viz. passenger vehicles, Two-Wheelers, and three-wheelers have posted growth in April 2023 as against April 2022, which indicates Industry has been able to transit smoothly to BS 6 Phase 2 Emission Norms from April 1.

As we are gradually getting into the monsoon season, among other factors, good rainfall can help the industry sustain its growth.” Maruti Suzuki led the domestic PV market with 1,37,320 units retailed in the month. Hyundai reported sales of 49,701 units in April 2023. Hero MotoCorp was the top two-wheeler maker with sales of 3,86,184 units in April 2023– down from 3,98,490 units last year. Honda 2-wheelers closed the gap in April 2023 with 3,38,290 units.
