NEW DELHI: Reinforcing the country’s push to create a skilled workforce to keep up with fast-paced growth and implement Right to Education Act, Finance Minister has proposed an allocation of `52,057 crore for education, which is an increase of 24 per cent over the current year. The Finance Minister has proposed an allocation of `38,957 crore for school education and literacy in 2011-12 as against ` 31,036 crore in 2010-11. An amount of `21,858 crore was allocated in 2009-10. He has proposed an allocation of `13,100 crore for department of higher education in 2011-12.
The government would introduce a pre-matric scholarship scheme for students belonging to the SC and ST studying in classes ninth and tenth. It would benefit about 40 lakh SC and ST students.
A sum of `50 crore each to upcoming centres of Aligarh Muslim University at Murshidabad in West Bengal and Malappuram in Kerala has been proposed. Also `100 crore as a one-time grant to Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University at Pookode and `20 crore for Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development, Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu. has been proposed.
An amount of `16 crore has been proposed for Central Institute of Classical Tamil (CICT), Chennai.
