Another builder in police net

A Real Estate promoter was arrested on Wednesday on the charge of cheating, based on complaints that he collected advance money from nearly 300 people, but failed to transfer the properties according to the agreements.

CHENNAI: A Real Estate promoter was arrested on Wednesday on the charge of cheating, based on complaints that he collected advance money from nearly 300 people, but failed to transfer the properties according to the agreements.

Complainant A Periyasamy said Kumar (55), the owner of Thiru Promoters, had promised him a property and took `4 lakh. Neither did Kumar fulfil the promise nor refund the money. Periyasamy filed a case with the Central Crime Branch, Chennai City Police.
Acting on a tip, the police picked up Kumar from his residence in Mugappair. Police told Express that the accused had been running Thiru Promoters with its office on KH Road, Ayanavaram. “We have received nearly 300 other cheating complaints against Kumar... He had shown customers land and property in and around Thiruvanmiyur. Taking them into confidence, Kumar had collected huge sums from his customers,” police said. A case under IPC 406 (punishment for criminal breach of trust) and 420 (cheating) has been registered.
