CHENNAI:  For newly engaged couples, the struggle to plan your wedding can be a struggle at best. At worst, you're left scrambling last minute for all the details to make for the perfect occasion. Sharath Singh, founder of My Grand Wedding and John Britto, general manager, claim to have created a solution that cuts out the middle-man and gives couples more control over their wedding day.

How it works

A customer goes and speaks to My Grand Wedding to figure out their wedding. They can list their requirements and the website helps them figure out the budget for all aspects. Among the vendors listed on their website are DJs, venues, choreographers, groomswear, spa and other yoga packages.
Through My Grand Wedding, there is only one point of contact for planning their wedding, which can help in last minute planning. “ Some people already booked a venue and just need one more thing. We give them the best price and lessen the burden. We will always recommend a handpicked vendor,” Britto said about the assured quality of the vendors. “We are playing a very vital role in making their big day work. These are the people we trust and want to work for.”

When Singh and Britto began their business, they were the only two employees. Now, they have over 14 people working in Chennai. “It was difficult in the beginning,” Singh said. “Chennai is a very traditional city, but our service offers theme — based weddings and destination weddings.”
Despite acknowledging other couples’ difficulties in wedding planning, Singh says his went very easily, likely due to his career in managing events. “My wedding was very simple and humble. It only took 10 days to plan the whole thing.”

To develop their collection of vendors, Singh's team works around the clock contacting independent vendors who would be willing to offer their services. “One girl came from abroad and contacted us about her wedding. Our person took her to 10 different venues, and from there we helped her with simple decorators. We also always make sure to have a Plan B venue in case of rain.”

Big plans

With My Grand Wedding, Singh has spent J50 lakh of his own money so far in developing the service, and operates out of 10 cities. They plan to expand to 30 cities in the next month, and are developing a stand-alone ‘Wedding Street’ in Navalur, where couples can visit a single location to pick out and choose the various details for their event. There will be 20 to 25 vendors in that location itself.
