CHENNAI:In a unique upgrade from the many wax museums and cheap mannequins that imitate the visages of famous personalities, Chennai got its very own ‘live art’ silicone museum that houses robust figurines at the VGP Snow Kingdom, Injambakkam. Inaugurated by actor Keerthi Suresh on Sunday, the ‘Live Art Museum’ replicates silicone figures of eight famous world personalities.

“There are several famous wax museums in the world but those sculptures lose their characteristics after two or three years and need constant upkeep,” claimed artist AP Shreethar, who conceptualised the silicone museum.

The figures include those of cricket superstar MS Dhoni in mid-swing, a resplendent Michael Jackson with his famous white glove, Amitabh Bachchan, Arnold Schwarzenegger in Terminator garb, Jackie Chan striking a pose, and Charlie Chaplin, Mother Theresa and even a 3D Mona Lisa. Explaining the work that went behind the figures, Shreethar said that is wasn’t easy since each figure had several people working on it to get the true essence of their forms. “We had to create a skeletal framework for the figurines after deciding the pose. Then the models were made and we applied the silicone masks, and then the costumes and accessories,” he said.

Keerthi Suresh spent a lot of time admiring each of the statues. “I knew about this project while Shreethar was working on it and was sure that it would be extremely creative and different,” she said, hoping that more figures of personalities could be added in future. Shreethar previously pioneered the form of Giclee painting (a form of digital art) in the country and is also part of the ‘Click Art’ 3D museum at the
same venue.
