In a bizarre incident triggered by the bloopers of a bus driver and conductor, a drunkard decided to take a BMTC bus for a joyride in Bangalore during Saturday night.
The unknown drunkard, who made off with the bus parked at Domlur, abandoned it at Ramamurthynagar, where it was ‘found’ in the morning. Around 10.30 pm on Saturday, bus driver Ashok and conductor Mahadev had stopped their bus, which runs between Domlur and Srinagar, for a dinner break on Domlur Ring Road. On an average day, a bus is not something you have to worry about leaving unguarded.
But this was not an average day and leaving his bus keys in the ignition was something Ashok came to regret in a few minutes.
“When I was heading towards the hotel for my dinner, a middleaged man approached me asking if we were heading towards Indiranagar. He was drunk and I refused him,” Ashok said.
Even before the unlucky duo could start on their dinner they saw something that made their jaw drop. The bus was heading out with the drunkard at the wheel.
The hapless conductor and driver decided to follow the wheel-happy drunkard on their own. The two tried to give chase and follow the bus towards Indiranagar but in vain. Around midnight, they informed the police. But the night belonged to the drunkard and the bus was not to be traced till dawn. Around 5 am, a passerby spotted the BMTC bus abandoned in Ramamurthynagar.
Nothing had been stolen from the bus and it was completely undamaged.
The drunkard is yet to be traced.
