BANGALORE: If you are joining college with dreams of wearing colourful western outfits in college campuses, it’s time for a reality check. Many colleges in Bangalore have imposed a ban on casual, western outfits and instructed them to wear formals.Express spotted out few colleges which have a 'dress code’

CHRIST COLLEGE

Students who are studying BA, B.Sc are told to wear formals.

For boys, no T-shirts and girls here cannot wear jeans.

Students of BBM and B.Com have to be in formals, boys have to come with tie and girls have to wear salwar kameez. For students of hotel management, it is full shirts and a blazer.

They also have a different uniform like those worn by chefs.

House keeping uniforms have to be worn during practical classes.

A female teacher has to wear saree and a male teacher has to come in formal shirts and trousers.

SB MAHAVEER JAIN COLLEGE

The dress code is for the entire college which offers pre-university and degree courses. Venkatesh, principal of the college said that they are following the code for the last few years.

Students are told not to wear sleeveless, shorts and tight jeans.

"We tell this to parents and students during admission. We believe discipline in dress code will make students disciplined in studies,’’ he said. He said that they even send home students if found to have violated the dress code. Teachers too have to wear formals and female teachers have to come dressed in sarees.

PES COLLEGE

Though normal jeans trousers are allowed here, low waist is banned. Students are restricted from wearing sleeveless. They even can't wear T-shirts. However, T-Shirts with collar is ok.

"The security guard outside the college does not allow us inside, if we do not follow the dress code,’’ a final year BBM student told this paper.

SESHADRIPURAM FIRST GRADE COLLEGE

Except for the BBM students, there is no specific dress code in this college. However, Prakash, principal of the college, said that though there is no restriction, students cannot wear a dress that looks obscene. "We have instructed all our lecturers to warn and advice those students who do not follow this,’’ he said.

MOUNT CARMEL COLLEGE

This women’s college which offers everything from PU to PG course has asked students to wear only salwar kameez.

"Jeans and other western outfits aren't allowed,’’ a student said.
