BANGALORE: OPPOSITION leader in the BBMP Council, M Nagaraj, on Tuesday lashed out at Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike officials for colluding with advertisers and allowing them to put up hoardings in no advertisement zones.
Speaking to mediapersons, Nagaraj said that despite the civic authority's advertisement bylaws prohibiting display of any hoardings or shifting of hoardings to the city's 'A' zone, the officials have allowed advertisements to be displayed on the skywalk near Sophia High School.
"The BBMP signed a publicprivate partnership with Vantage Advertisers to construct five skywalks at Jayanagar in 2005. However, violating the rules, the officials have allowed advertisers to shift the skywalk and put up advertisement hoardings in the 'A' zone," he said.
The High Court order and a government order clearly state that there should be no obstruction on the footpaths, but the skywalk has been constructed on the footpath thereby, forcing pedestrians to walk on the busy road, he added.
The officials have also violated laws for construction of bus shelters, he said. "There should be space for display of BBMP's awareness material and bus schedules," he said.
