BANGALORE: After a year and nine months, the RT Nagar police have solved a triple murder case in the city.

A retired professor, P L Sachdev, his wife Reeta Sachdev and their son Munna were strangulated on February 16, 2009, with wire and cloth.

The accused in the case have been identified as Deepak Haldar (30) and his wife Suchitra Haldar (26) of Paragan of West Bengal, Mohammed Sarbal alias Raj (33) and Bidan Shikari (26) of Muzaffarpur, Bihar, and Bidan Shikari (26), also from Paragan, West Bengal.

Suchitra and Deepak Haldar worked as servants at the professor’s house and they were absconding since the incident.

This helped the police to solve the case and evidence of their involvement in the murders was found.

Five teams were formed to arrest the accused but they failed even after visiting West Bengal, Delhi and other states for 15 times.

From Bangalore

to Bengal

The case was cracked when RT Nagar Inspector C W Poovaiah and his team went to West Bengal and stayed there for three months.

There was information that the accused may escape to Bangladesh or Nepal.

Investigating team members posed as brokers and auto drivers to look for the accused in Kolkata, Krishnachandpur, Kulfi, Kakdeep, Jadhavpur, Kalikapur and other places.

Two police personnel, disguised as father and son, pretended to be looking for a bride and went to Madanmohanpur to collect information on Suchitra’s brothers.

There they got the address of Suchitra’s brothers — Uttam Haldra and Palan Haldar — who lived in Jadhavpur, 80 km from Madanmohanpur.

The accused Deepak Haldar has an eight-year-old daughter, Reeya, who is studying in a Bengali school. Police traced them through the teacher who gave tuition to Reeya.

They were arrested on November 12 from a rented house in Kalikapura.

The accused were produced before the Kolkata Court and then taken into custody for interrogation.

Then, the other two accused — Mohammed Sarbal and Bidan Shikari — were arrested from Bangalore.

Police recovered two gold bangles, a mangalya chain, silver materials and other articles worth of `1.3 lakh from them. One accused is still absconding.
