BANGALORE: In a suo motu investigation taken up by the Lokayukta following the tragic death of a sevenyearold boy, the technical team of the Lokayukta officials have found lapse on the part of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike officials and gross violation of building plans.
Subbu was found dead in a sump of an underconstruction building in Jayanagar in the first week of November.
Sources said the Labour Commissioner has booked a criminal case against Meera Builders for culpable homicide in the 4th Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate.
Taking strong objection, the Lokayukta officials have asked the BBMP commissioner to take stringent action against the officer concerned of town planning and the civil contractor for allegedly being indirectly responsible for the death of Subbu.
Following the recommendation, the BBMP has suspended the license of the contractor and ordered an inquiry against the officer concerned to ascertain his lapse on this part.
Director (Vigilance) of Lokayukta Anande Gowda, who conducted the inquiry, said the building in question failed to ensure safety norms and also violated the plan sanctioned by the BBMP.
Elaborating on this, he said more than 80 per cent of the buildings in the city do not comply with the safety norms and blatantly violate safety norms, but the department concerned kept mum on shifting their responsibilities on each other.
Referring to the recent incident of a 12yearold boy falling from the terrace of a building on Cunningham Road, he said it is also a clear case of violation of safety norms and the BBMP could initiate action, but nothing has happened.
Asked whether the Lokayukta would take up the case of Alan John, Gowda said if the Lokayukta started probing every incident, then all officers concerned would be booked.
