BANGALORE: This December, Bangalore will witness a visual spectacle far from anything that has been performed on the Indian stage so far. In a grand partnership with renowned media giant Radaan Mediaworks, Evam will present its latest production The 39 Steps. This production of the play has been an international blockbuster, having a successful run of over seven years at Broadway and the West End under its belt, and is still going strong to this date. This spectacular production has now been produced in India, premiering first in Bangalore this December and is due to travel all across India this year.
Four actors play 140 roles in one and a half hours, in an absolute masterpiece of visual humor and comic timing. The play’s concept calls for the entirety of the film The 39 Steps to be performed nearly verbatim onstage. The film’s serious spy story is played mainly for laughs, and the script is full of allusions to other Hitchcock films, including Rear Window and Psycho. This is perhaps the ultimate spoof espionage thriller.
The play premieres in Bangalore at The Academy of Music , Chowdiah Memorial Hall on December 25 at 7.30 pm, followed by one more show on December 26 at 6 pm. Tickets for this play will be priced at `750, `400 and `200 and will be available for sale at Landmark and at www.indianstage.in.
