BANGALORE: Country’s top notch research institute, the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) has hordes of aspirants wanting to be its alumnus.

However, it is a different experience for these 30 odd students, who have enrolled in the college and are left stranded without accommodation facilities.

The enrollment process at the IISc started three months ago but the students are angry that till the last moment they were not informed of the shortage of rooms in the hostel.

“We reached the campus yesterday and only now we are informed that we have to find an accommodation outside the college,” said Samantha(name changed), a Mumbai native student. “It is disappointing for me because I came to IISc with great expectations, now this accommodation issue has worried us all,” she added.

Speaking to Express, a student council member explained that this year in IISc there has been around 1,000 new enrollments, while only 300 students have finished their courses and vacated the dorms.

Though the institute was well-aware of the problem, they were helpless because the hostel construction work has been progressing at a slow pace, he added.

Another student, said, “How are we supposed to find a house in Bangalore within a week? We have to find a house near the college but there no options around.” Allegedly, the decision to not allocate students was based on where the Demand Draft was filed from, as many students from other states had made the DD from Bangalore.

IISc spokesperson Dr Tilagam, however, denied the whole issue and said that the hostel enrollment is going on and within a week everyone will be allotted rooms.
