BANGALORE: Eight employees of Wipro in Bangalore and nine of their family members, who were stranded in the violence- hit Egyptian capital Cairo, are set to return safely to India early on Monday.
The employees, most of whom are from Bangalore, were in Cairo on a project for the last few months and sent an SOS to the head office as the civil unrest in Egypt escalated.
“All of them were housed in a hotel for the past two days for safety reasons. They have been airlifted and brought to the Cairo international airport. The employees and their family members will get on board a flight to Mumbai and are expected to arrive in Bangalore early Monday,” Saurabh Govil, senior vice-president, Human Resource, Wipro IT Business, told Express on Sunday.
Govil, however, did not disclose any details of the employees or as to when they would reach Bangalore upon their arrival in India.
According to him, immediately after receiving messages from the stranded employees two days ago that they preferred to return to India, the company’s overseas operations cell and the emergency cell were in constant contact with the employees and family members in India were reassured of their well-being.
Meanwhile, the External Affairs Ministry, which was also monitoring the situation, was informed and they speeded the process to bring them to the hotel.
