BANGALORE: Four robbers did not know what was in store for them when they tried to rob a 32 year old man past Saturday night. For, they did not know he is Major (Retd) Deepak Iyer, who has fought terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir.

On Saturday night, he was walking towards his parents' house in Pampa Layout near Kempapura when he sensed that two men were approaching him. He told Express that the men attacked him and tried to snatch his mobile phone but he resisted then. He said as the two miscreants could not overpower him, their two aides came to their rescue.

Iyer said the goons hit him but he too landed a few blows on their faces. He said one of them started bleeding and they understood that they could not take him out. He added that he tried to catch two of them but one of them injured him by throwing a boulder on his face and all the four miscreants succeeded in fleeing away.

Iyerwho says he is a classmate of Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan, who laid down his life fighting terrorists in 26/11 attacksaid he could handle the situation because of his military training. He expressed concern, saying what would happen if fourfive miscreants attack a civilian. He opined that police should be more aggressive in dealing with such criminals.

He has a filed a complaint in Amruthahalli police station regarding the incident. The police have approached Iyer with a file of pictures of habitual robbery offenders and investigations are on.
