BANGALORE: A Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike pourakarmika was electrocuted as she came into contact with a low tension distribution box (LT Box) while she went to put away her broom into the cage enclosing the distribution box. The incident occurred near the swimming pool in the busy Jayanagar 3rd Block.

The deceased has been identified as Rajeshwari (21), a temporary pourakarmika with the BBMP.

Hailing from Andhra Pradesh, she was married only three months ago and was living with her husband in Someshwaranagar near NIMHANS. According to the police, Rajeshwari used to sweep the area around the swimming pool and used to keep the broom inside the box after work. On Saturday around 12.30 pm, while putting the broom away in the 11 kv box after work, she was electrocuted and was charred, the police said.

It is suspected that her hair came into contact with a fuse and this led to her death. But the exact cause is not clear.

Meanwhile, the residents of the area blamed the authorities and said that if the LT box had been closed, the incident could have been averted.

Tilaknagar police have registered a case of causing death by negligence according to section 304A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against local BESCOM officials.
