BANGALORE: As part of animal exchange programme, the Bannerghatta Biological Park (BBP) has received a set of birds and animals from Sri Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens, Mysore.

Executive Director of the Park Dr R Raju said, “We have received one White Peacock, ten Silver Pheasants, seven hog deer, two Gharials, four Spectacled Caiman Crocodiles and two Morlet’s crocodiles.”

With the addition of these new animals, the status of animal collection has increased considerably. Presently, there are 74 different species numbering to 1,448 individual animals. The management of BBP is making all the efforts to increase the diversity and collection of new species apart from pairing the solitary animals.

Animal Collection Plan Approved

The Zoo Authority of Karnataka, in its 120th Governing Council meeting, has approved the ‘Animal Collection Plan’ of BBP to facilitate for the collection of new species within the country and abroad. The important species planned for the collection during next couple of years are; pairing of solitary animals like Great Indian Horn Bill, Lion Tailed Macaque, Chinkara and Mouse Deer. “The new collection includes chimpanzee, giraffe, baboon and rhinoceros,” said Dr Raju.
