BANGALORE: The city police conducted a press conference to prove that they have done a good job by arresting Irani gang members. But a case of human rights violation, attempt to rape and theft case has been filed with the Karnataka State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) against the cops who took part in the operation.

The president of the Anjuman-E-Hussaini Irani Community and a member of Bidar Municipal Council, Fatima A A has approached the SHRC and its Registrar has referred the case to the IGP of the Commission for investigation and file a report in three months. The complainant has also requested the SHRC Chairman to ask the government to order a CID probe.

According to the complaint, around 1.30 am on February 4, more than 35 policemen came in vans to the Irani Galli in Hussaini Colony and trespassed 120 houses, in which women, children and others were fast asleep. “A team comprising Bangalore and Bidar police, led by DCP North East B R Ravikanthe Gowda, ransacked over 100 houses and looted gold and expensive electronic goods on the pretext of recovering stolen goods,” she alleged and unlawfully arresting people.

 She also charged that it was most disgraceful that the police outraged the modesty of women by undressing and molesting them.
