BANGALORE: Truly our rich traditions and culture resides in villages. Bangalore city might have earned international acclaim as the Silicon Valley, but the traditional values are still prevalent in villages which can be witnessed at the outskirts of the city.
One such village is Hegganahalli, which was recently added to the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) ward along with bunch of some other villages. When the City Express visited the ward, we found the tradition where the citizens of Hegganahalli worshiping anthill is still prevalent. As we proceeded on the muddy roads, we found a herd of buffaloes being reared.
Hegganahalli which was earlier under the City Municipal Council needs many developmental works. Vigneshwara Nagar Main Road which falls under both the jurisdictions of Hegganahalli and Herohalli BBMP ward is craving for proper maintenance. We observed that the road was slushy and tardy. Speaking to City Express, Kumar, a resident said, “From the past 6-7 years the road is in the same state. With many new houses coming up here, development works are being taken up. The works of laying water pipes to supply Cauvery water has been taken up by the BBMP officials.” When we spoke to ward corporator Govindegowda M B, he said, “The money which we are granted in the BBMP budget is not enough to carry out the developmental works that the citizens of this ward wish for. Most of the funds granted to us goes into looking after the basic amenities in the ward -be it sanitary, drainage or other basic needs”.
Lamenting on the Palike’s attitude of granting the same amount of funds to the developed and yet-to-be developed wards, he urged the Palike to grant more funds for his ward. “There are no parks in the ward. We demand a park at the earliest,” Narasimha, a resident. Govindegowda said that he had seeked a special grant of ` 4.5 crore from the Palike to develop a park on the Sunkadakatte Pipeline Road. “Works will begin once we receive the special grants,” Govindegowda said.
