While BBMP officials are holding door-to-door campaigns to educate people across the city, officials in Dasarahalli zone have a different problem.
Most people here, are factory workers. They leave home in the morning and hence, officials are greeted by locked doors. Joint Commissioner (Dasarahalli) Radhakrishna L said there are eight wards in the zone. “We have formed teams of officials who go to every ward and create awareness about segregation of waste,” he said.
However, many residents here work for industries and they are not available in the morning. Radhakrishna said so far, only 25 per cent of houses could be reached. He noted the situation was better compared to Day 1. Bhagya, a garment factory worker, and a resident of Dugalamma Colony, said she leaves home at 7 am and pourakarmikas come only after 8 am.
“BBMP is insisting on segregaion of waste. I do not have any problem with that, but they are asking us to give it in dustbins. If we leave the dustbin outside, there are chances of someone stealing it as we return late in the evening,” she said. Though the BBMP has stressed on segregation of waste, interestingly, K L Thimmananjiah, Peenya Industrial ward councillor says there are not many vehicles and pourakarmikas to pick up the waste. This ward was in CMC limits and tender to clear garbage was called seven years ago.
“After coming under BBMP jursidiction, it has developed and population has increased. With just announcement of segregation, BBMP will not be successful. They have improve the infrastructure,” he said.
