National Symposium on Biotechnology held

The inauguration of the three-day national symposium on ‘Emerging Horizons in Biotechnology — Challenges and Prospects’ organised by the Biotechnology Department of Alpha Arts and Science College was held on its campus in Chennai on Thursday.

Principal Dr Leela Abraham introduced the guests D Sharad P Kale, Head, Technology Transfer and Collaboration Division, BARC, Mumbai and Dr Daniel Chellapa, Senior Scientist, Technology Corporation Wing, BARC.

In his address Dr Sharad P Kale stated that the world is going through a critical phase in scientific research, hence the quality of research needs to be improved. He requested the younger generation to make use of molecular biology as a tool in progressing scientific inventions beneficial to mankind thus preserving nature. He also emphasised that a solid waste management system is the need of the hour.

Following this was an interactive session between Dr Sharad P Kale and the students. He shared his knowledge on the subject and also encouraged them to preserve nature in all possible ways.
