BANGALORE: After several weeks of sweltering heat, many Bangaloreans finally got relief as the city experienced the first pre-monsoon showers of the year on Saturday. Many areas in South Bangalore experienced rain and thundershowers measuring up to 0.7 mm at about 8.30 am. Areas like Uttarahalli, BMT Layout, Padmanabhanagar, Banashankari, Jayanagar and Rajajinagar received rains, while HAL experienced traces of rain measuring within the 0.5 mm limit. “Many parts of interior Karnataka and Bangalore city experienced rains early in the morning on Saturday. While Dharwad and Belgaum received rains lesser than 0.5 mm limit, Bangalore city recorded 0.7 mm on the observatory. Chintamani in Kolar district recorded 0.6 mm and Chikkanahalli recorded 0.5 mm of rain,” said Dr R Asokan, Director-in-charge, Meteorological Centre, Bangalore.

Bangaloreans, thrilled that the city finally got a bit cooler, enjoyed the calm breeze throughout the day. “It was amazing to experience the old weather that Bangalore is known for. The heat was terrible and we are glad that the rains are here,” said Ashwini Rani, a student.

With the change in the weather being appreciated by the city, the MET department predicts that rain and thunderstorms will continue in the next few days.
