BANGALORE: The prices of the vegetables have shot up in the city by 30 per cent within a month. The prices of some vegetables have doubled when compared to the previous year. Beans are being sold at Rs 40 to 50 per kg in retail market which was just around Rs 19 during last year. According to the HOPCOMS price list, tomato is being sold at Rs 20 per kg (Last year, it was Rs 7). Dr K Ramakrishnappa, Additional Director and President of the Jaivik Krishik Society said, the prices have shot up following decrease in rainfall. “Several borewells have gone dry in Bangalore Rural district. The supply has reduced while the demand continues to soar.”
