BANGALORE: During the launch of his new book, ‘Lekhanagala Sangraha (Collection of Articles)’, Kannada writer and Jnanpith awardee U R Ananthmurthy said he would welcome if school children thought positively about naxalism.

Speaking against the backdrop of Art of Living founder Sri Sri Ravishankar’s statement alleging that government schools were breeding grounds for naxalism, he said, “There is no need for serious scrutiny of his thoughts. Sri Sri Ravishankar is not a saint. I would welcome if school children have positive attitude towards naxalism.”

“I have due respect for Shankaracharya and Ramakrishna Paramahamsa,” he further said.

However, he added they were not against the  practices of untouchability in Hindu religion.

“I have nothing against such practices, but I  cannot stand practiceslike untouchability and I am unfavourable  towards it,” he further added.
