BANGALORE: The Opposition and ruling parties in the BBMP council are at loggerheads yet again. This time, the Opposition has questioned the powers and responsibility of Deputy Mayor, who have failed to table the administrative report.

The report should contain details of financial transactions, projects, reforms and loopholes that have taken place in the previous financial year and under obligatory functions the Deputy Mayor has to submit the report which will be discussed at the Mayor and Deputy Mayor’s last council meet before their term ends.

Congress corporator from Jayamahal ward, Gunashekar said, “As per the Karnataka Municipal Corporation Act, the Deputy Mayor has to table the administrative report which highlights the details of projects undertaken, financial aid sought and number of officials involved. Also, details of drawbacks of the project, if any, have to be mentioned to ensure fair criticism from the opposition. But that has been absent under BJP rule. Former deputy mayor N Dayanand had also not tabled the report and present Deputy Mayor S Harish will also continue the same.”

However, Harish maintained that from the past four years the rule was not followed, and hence, it was difficult to table the report without referring to earlier reports. Harish claimed that he had sent a letter to the BBMP commissioner requesting him to table the report with the help of other officials but nothing had happened so far. “So far, I have tried to table the report four times, but my attempts have remained futile. Hence, I have decided not to table the report. I have informed the same to BBMP commissioner also,” Harish said.

M K Shankarlinge Gowda, Commssioner, BBMP, said, “It is the responsibility of the Deputy Mayor to table the report. I cannot comment if he is not performing his obligatory function.”
