BANGALORE: Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) is known to bring out something special for its commuters and this time too they have come up with a unique strategy especially for those traveling to

the airport.

The BMTC has launched 62 green Volvo buses with Bharat Stage 4 (BS 4) brand better known as Vayu Vajra buses for easy access to the international airport.

K R Sreenivas, Managing Director of BMTC, said, “We have brought out brand new Volvo buses which are green in colour and every day, we are running over 640 trips to and fro from various city points to the airport.”

On the need for change in colour from the existing red scheme to green for the new buses, Sreenivas added that green was chosen for the new buses to put across the point that they are more environment friendly.

“We chose green colour for the obvious reason that it is eco-friendly and there is less carbon emission.” The BMTC MD said, “All the buses will officially start plying from the end of April.”

The BMTC is presently working on the ITS project for the installation of Global Positioning System (GPS) in all the buses and it is now in the process of finalising the tender.

Once it is finalised, the GPS will be processed and installed in all the vehicles. GPS will enable BMTC to actively track all its buses in the city, organise the schedules better and plan out trips thus, making the transport giant much more efficient.
