BANGALORE: An Assistant Engineer (AE) at BESCOM was caught red-handed by the Lokayukta police while accepting a bribe of `1,500 to sanction power supply for a customer on Tuesday.
Acting on a complaint by Mohammed Jaffer Pasha, an electrical contractor, the Lokayukta police trapped Purushotam, AE C-5, Kaval Byrasandra, R T Nagar.
Pasha alleged that the accused demanded a bribe of `5,000 to sanction power supply for his newly constructed house.
After signing the line estimate, Purushotam collected `2,000, and when the complainant approached the AE to get poles installed, he demanded `3,000. Pasha had paid `2,500 bribe.
When the poles were installed, Purshotam demanded an extra `1,500. As the complainant was not willing to pay the bribe, he lodged a complaint with the Lokayukta police, according to the ADGP (Lokayukta) Arun Chakrvarthi’s statement.
