BANGALORE: Better late than never. It looks like Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagar Palike(BBMP) has learnt a lesson after the recent fire mishap at Russell market. It was a timely action from the BBMP to handover fire extinguishers to shops at K R Market to prevent such accidents in future.

Just two months back,  the vendors of Russell market witnessed the worst nightmare of their life time when a horrendous fire mishap led to huge loss of property. The flower vendors at K R Market informed City Express that the fire extinguishers have been put up in the market just 15

days back.

The increase in number of fire accidents in the city has worked like an eye opener for the BBMP officials and the absence of fire extinguishers in such crowed places have been realised by the authorities. “In order to avoid any untoward incidents, the BBMP has taken measures to put out fire extinguishers. These fire extinguishers can help in avoiding injuries and death along with loss of goods during any such emergency. So we are installing fire extinguishers at all the market places possible,” sources from BBMP said. When City Express contacted Deputy Mayor S Harish, he confirmed that fire extinguishers have been distributed to all the markets. Harish said that they have given away fire extinguisher to all the markets after the Russel market fire incident. He also asserted the fact that the campaign to donate fire extinguishers had started five months back, thereby contradicting his own statement, since it has been just two months when Russel Market was gutted under fire.
